Welcome to Mel King for Mayor.
A promotional and public education campaign inspired by Melvin “Mel” Herbert King’s run for Mayor of Boston in 1983. As the first Black person to run for Mayor of Boston, and from our perspective, the first to run on a platform of love, we just want people to learn about Mel.
The campaign revisits the life and times of Melvin through screening a short film documentary, originally produced as a eulogy for his homegoing ceremony in 2023, The Brunch. We are excited to bring the neighborhood out to reignite Mel’s legacy of movement, agency, and creativity across Boston, and eventually – the world. Seats are limited, RSVP below.
To support one of Mel's legacy projects please consider donating to the South End Technology Center.
